Tracy Van Slyke

Tracy Van Slyke is the publisher of In These Times magazine (www.inthesetimes.com). Van Slyke has dedicated much of her career as a journalist and communications professional to building a strong independent media infrastructure. She has co-authored the landmark articles on the developments in building the progressive media landscape including Making Connections: Why is the news so bad? What can progressives do to fix it? and Welcome to the Media Revolution: How today’s media makers are shaping tomorrow’s news.
As publisher, Van Slyke oversees the strategic development, financial management, fundraising, circulation and promotion of In These Times. Previously, Van Slyke was the magazine’s associate publisher, where she worked to build In These Times’ relationship with other media outlets and national organizations and helped guide the magazine’s strategic development. Tracy is currently on the leadership council for the both the Progressive Communicator’s Network and The Media Consortium and is serving as Vice President for Print for the Chicago Association of Women Journalists. Van Slyke also provides strategic communications and planning consulting for numerous non-profits and organizing groups across the country.
Prior to joining In These Times, she was the Communications Director for the National Training and Information Center, a national non-profit organization dedicated to strengthening grassroots organizations. In 2000, she worked in Knight Ridder’s Washington, D.C. bureau during the presidential campaign, covering national politics and events.
