Appeal to Unreason

By James Parker

Pity poor Tom DeLay. Not only must the House Majority Leader suffer the snipings of Democrats hot to find him guilty of “ethics violations,” he has now become the target of a heavy metal hex. “The Deprogramming Of Tom DeLay,” an instrumental track on the album Mother Teacher Destroyer from Maryland-based trio the Hidden Hand, is a straightforward magical assault, half… return to article

seems to me that music today thrives off rebellion and bands now realize that they can capitalize off this. you just can’t sell lyrics praising george w bush and jesus. what can you sell? garbarge that’s mentioned in this article, devoid of hope and goals. which is not to say music must contain these items to be powerful. i just find that bands wanting to sing so much about how they hate certain things never find the time so slip in any solutions to all these so-called problems we have today. when they fail to do this, why are they any different than today’s typical politican? frankly, the latter take enough from us already. i wouldn’t pay a dime for this crap that people call music. they take advantage of the capitalistic system like bush, cheney, and everyone else out there. when there’s no solution, everyone’s wrong.

    Hey “Mike,”
As far as I know, Wino has been in bands like Hidden Hand since the early 1980’s, when he played in St. Vitus. In the intervening years, he’s probably made enough money in the various bands he’s played in to make a living, but the guy is not out to strike it rich, and is certainly not “taking advantage of the capitalist system like Bush and Cheney.” If speaking out against corruption and social ills through music for 20 years is somehow comparable to what Bush and Cheney have been doing lately, then I have no idea what your “solution” entails. And if Wino’s a capitalist, then I would be really curious to know what you do for a living.

Gosh, what a comeback. Bring me a bucket for my tears, “Mike” thinks I’m a moron!

i agree with mike, darnell is a stupid bastard

United States Posted by mikes friend on Jan 4, 2005 at 9:36 PM

darnell’s only interested in what mike does for a living if wino’s a capitalist? what a fucking dipshit

United States Posted by mikes other friend on Jan 5, 2005 at 7:19 AM

Wait a second. Something fishy’s going on: “Mike” HAS no friends! He must be posting in the name of his “friends” during the short time between his compulsive masturbation sessions.

If he had a real job, he’d probably be making a real good living.
One only has to look at Eminem’s garbage to see Mike’s point (Eminem, Encore album, “Mosh”). So what if Mike doesn’t know how to properly use the English language. At least he knows what he’s talking about. Bands, artists, these people capitalize on critizing the government. This doesn’t exactly require an astronomical IQ. There’s no admiration in making a living this way.

sounds like a great way to make a living ....bashing Bush. The only retards are Republicans….

We need more leisure and music in this country…or else the only ones having fun would be republican fascists…who don’t know how to have fun except when they’re working Americans to death.

I think there’s probably a difference between the dude who plays guitar in “Hidden Hand” and Eminem. On the one hand, we have a guy in a relatively uncommercial “stoner metal” band whose been playing in consistently uncommercial bands for the past 20 years. Those bands have had some songs here and there that have been critical of various situations which the members see as unjust. On the other hand, Eminem is a guy who’s made millions of dollars in the past 7-8 years, rapping primarily about farts and how much he hates his mom. Considering his past output and success, Eminem’s “Mosh” song and video look suspiciously like a scuzz celebrity cashing in on an anti-Bush trend. But can the same thing be said for any musician who writes songs critical of Bush and his administration? Especially a musician who has had a consistently anti-establishment message for the past 20 years and has probably only made enough to live? If (as Mike and the guy above claim) every musician who speaks out against George Bush and similarly corrupt administrations is some kind of opportunist capitalist on the scale of Eminem, no matter how little they’ve made from their art or how long they’ve been making such music, then when is it ok for anyone to speak out against the government and still earn enough to live?

    Dear Mike Goebbels,

Creed and Toby Keith make millions praising George W. Bush and Jesus.  And so does your mom.

United States Posted by whyilaugh on Jan 11, 2005 at 7:10 PM

keep crying…you lost the election because not enough people care about your progressive, socialist agenda. mike goebbels? its like another inane comparison of g.w. bush to hitler…i saw something the other day….some pundit goes, “you know, hitler was democratically elected too.”
you people are so desperate, and yet so pathetic.
you lost, get over it. and if you can’t, get out of dodge, and don’t let me door hit you on the way out. if it does, and you get hurt, go to canada and see how wonderful universal healthcare works up there. have fun paying their taxes too…you people sicken me

United States Posted by whyulaughbecauseurugly on Jan 23, 2005 at 5:17 PM

hey numbnuts, you “won,” so why don’t you go get your tits blown off in Iraq. If people disagreeing with you makes your pussy hurt so bad, why don’t YOU fucking move back to pre-1990’s Soviet Union? You are a fascist, just admit it. You worship George W. Bush and your idiotic rants only brand you as a pathetic, simpering lap dog. My only wish is that the other half of your brain was flushed down the toilet when you were lobotomized, so you’d be dead already!
