I was drafted during the Korean war and, to my shame, spent a couple years working on biological weapons. I caught a disease and sporadically have been plagued with heart trouble since. An Army doctor examined me and told me there was nothing wrong. They didn’t treat veterans well back then either.

How about BBC? They reported that over 20,000 voters were illegally disenfranchised in Florida in 2000. I don’t see how our “liberal” press could have been so incompetent as to miss that. Add that to the domination of the media by a few large corporations and the conclusion is that the media covered up for Bush. Can’t you see the simple and honest logic in that?
Or how the mainstream media failed to point out that the administration rationales for the Iraq war were all lies - the stories about WMDs, nuclear weapons, links of Al Qaeda and Saddam, and that Saddam was involved with 911. The media did such a poor job and have not adequately refuted the lies that even today many people still believe those lies to be true.
Some things are self-evident. Protesters pose no real physical threat to the peace. They are harassed because they expose the lies. Torture is not acceptable in a democratic society, especially when it was ineffective other than to terrorize folks. Killing huge numbers of civilians is not acceptable and is immoral.

I believe in people’s inate ability to govern themselves over obedience to authority that serves only its own self-interest. What do you think is an objective news source?
Diversity is what makes this country great. If we all thought alike it would be more like the Soviet Union or Nazi Germany. There is an appropriate place for rational conservatism. That is as an anchor to slow and question in a reasonable manner the striving of Progressives to create a more just, open and democratic society. That is what we Progressives are about, not trying to take away your guns, or forcing you to have homosexual sex, or suppressing our religious faith, or any of the false beliefs you seem to think we have. People are justifiably angry when you impute ideas and loyalties on them that they don’t really hold. It requires mutual respect for democracy to work. Liberalism also has a legitimate role in mediating between the extremes. The onus is upon yourself to maintain civility in a situation where you know your ideas are going to cause conflict. Just take a deep breath, pray to your God for strength, and turn the other cheek. Take your time and have a little patience.

Virtually every war in history involved religion at its core. I don’t think God favors war even as freedom marches. But men continue to wage useless and unnecessary wars in the name of God. The First Amendment mandates a separation of church and state to prevent the US from becoming a theocracy. The founding fathers were not Christians and they did not form a Christian nation. Bush’s catering to the religious right is dangerous and unconstitutional.
I am angry that this man is president and your insults and vulgarities are certainly not going to convince me that I am wrong to oppose Bush. I have judged Bush by his words and deeds and the evidence is overwhelming that he is both extremely incompetent and corrupt. Have you ever collected unemployment insurance, workman’s comp, time and a half pay, good wages, a forty hour week, a Social Security pension, cheap housing loans on credit, student loans, etc? And, if you have been really down on your luck, did you need subsidized housing, welfare or food stamps to keep a roof over your head and your belly filled. Do you favor safe drugs and nontoxic foods? If you are black, do you want freedom from separate water fountains and “back of the bus” status? If a woman, how do feel about making far less than men and being barred from high paying jobs? Or being fired when you become old because of company policy? Have you ever been protected from corporate monopolies’ economic exploitation by federal consumer protection, employee safety and environmental protection programs. Ever been saved from being ripped off or injured by a defective product as a result of a class action suit or one which resulted in a very large cost to the manufacturer? Ever been saved from dying of cancer by regulations against toxic waste dumping? These are all liberal programs, advocated by liberal folks like us. You are an extremely fortunate (rich?) person if you haven’t needed them. If you’ve benefitted from any of them, do you wish they weren’t there when they helped you out.
Sure there are abuses. A few folks abuse the welfare system, some cheat, some of the extreme liberal programs are off base. That is true with any huge scale endeavor. But the cost of that cheating is miniscule compared to the cost of corporate welfare and exploitation. I’d bet the amount stolen by Halliburton is much greater than all the welfare cheating.
Why do you hate liberals? My dad owned a little poodle and had trained her to bark at what he called the “cat hole” under the house. She would put on quite a show - rushing, scratching and yapping at the cat hole. Mind, she had no beef with the cat, they were pals, she used to sleep and play with it. College educated people tend to be less bigoted than those with less education. That’s because as people learn more about the world and different races and lifestyles they come to understand that there is no valid reason to be afraid of these different races or lifestyles. Bigotry is a direct result of fear and ignorance; and education eradicates ignorance in most people. Obviously, your upbringing has a lot to do with it and if your parents are not bigots, then you will probably not be bigoted.
