End of an Era

By James Parker

No one rolls in their own excrement for nothing. GG Allin, or Jesus Christ Allin, as he was christened—his little brother Merle called him Je-Je—surely had a good reason for becoming the most degraded performer in the history of rock ’n’ roll. But what was it? Was it Culture he opposed? Or Life itself? Or was it the Normal, that shuffling… return to article

Damn, I thought 2LiveCrew was pushing the envelope back in the late 80’s/early 90’s.  This guy was EXTREME!

I miss iggy when he was “the world’s forgotten boy, the one who searches to distroy.” Before Bowie gentrified him.

And in a twisted kind of irony which do you think is tougher to admit to: the unnerving spectacle of a horrid self-exorcism with you as enabling voyeur; or, a silly burlesque of same choreographed for a Gap check with you as target consumer?

    “future Bowie guitarist Carlos Alomar”

Huh? Alomar was with Bowie since 1974. He cowrote FAME in ‘75 with Bowie and Lennon.

get the GG cd “Banned in Boston” which has his first record, influenced by the ramones and ripped off my countless “pop punk” bands.

His last record with the murder junkies is also great, but more “scum rock” sounding.

In between he did great records and really bad ones too.  Still, GG was more than just someone who rolled in poop.
