Erin, in case you’re new, I’ll give you a little advice. In order to get people to notice your story and comment on it, you’ve got to somehow make whatever bad thing you’re talking about be the fault of the Bush administration, Republicans or conservatives.
You don’t even really need to provide any solid proof. Just say things like “many people think”, or “the people in the know I’ve talked to say”. Provide damning quotes, they don’t even need to be accurate. Search: <Bill Moyers James Watt> for insight.
Seriously though, I appreciate your story. What Susan Plum is doing is an example of how one person can make a difference. Spreading her story is doing a great service toward raising awareness and hopefully garning support from around the world. I’m surprised that nobody has seen fit to comment on your story after two days in the headline position, and at least express solidarity with these women.
But then, these are the same types that would hyper-ventilate over Bob Packwood chasing a few skirts around a desk for a kiss, but go totally mum when someone from their own sacrosanct political party is shown to be a genuine sexual predator.

I’ve just lit a candle, in Canada.

Wow Natalie, that certainly was a pile of self pity, but what does it have to do with the content of the article?

Natalie sounds like a genu-wine re-epublican hypo-crat.

Atta girl Natalie, stir the hornets’ nest. Bashing the right is religion around here and the elected just wanna speak in their tongues.

A very good film by Lourdes Portillo on the subject of the missing women of Ciudad Juarez.

how did this article turn into the whole struggle btwn the left and right wing? There is a major problem occuring in Mexico and all you poeple do is talk about how left is bad or republicans are hypocrites. This is serious, people are are being murdered and it seems as tho noone really truly cares.

Adriana-Please don’t generalize about the cares of the many, based on the idiocy of one, whose post attempted to turn it into a polarizing thread.

I can’t believe I have never heard this story before reading this article. I mean, the number of women killed just in that one area is really frightening…........why has this not been covered more extensivley? Why aren’t these murders being stopped? Every time I read things like this, I just become so angry that people can be so violent towards each other.Being female, I become even more angry when I hear about widespead sexual violence. According to this article,it says that a large reason why the violence continues is due to machismo. Why do societies tolerate machismo? It is equally disgusting as racism, and equally as unfounded. Is it because the murdered people are women that the government is unwilling to do anything about it? I would not be suprised.I am so sick of hearing about women being in disempowered situations,it is too commonplace! I wish that people were not so sick and deranged so that there could be world peace….........and so that people would not have to fear for their lives because of their gender/ethnic group/ect…...nice thoughts, right? :0/ It’s hard to hang onto hope when there is so much hatred…......................
