Sundance Docs 2006

By Pat Aufderheide

Have the marketplace successes of Michael Moore (Fahrenheit 9/11) and Robert Greenwald (Outfoxed, Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price) changed the chances for documentary films? If Sundance this year was any guide, yes. The trend-spotting festival was bolder than usual in showcasing politically-charged films. This was a year when, along with Paris Hilton and John Waters, Al Gore counted… return to article

these films bring out alot of truth that nobody wants to hear. Look at the truth Fahrenheit 9/11 brought about bush. If it was not true bush and his clan would have sued the pants off of mike moore. The people who put down the movie won’t go see it, and the weak response from the noe-cons with fahrenhipe 911 was pathetic. So rove and company makes sure that liberal is a profanity word and people like moore are crazy bastards. The next on the list will be clooney with Syriana and Good Night and Good Luck.
Neo-cons are at a all time low at the polls, so they have to have an all out attack on anybody who brings out the mistakes they have made in the last 5 years.
You can bet people like fox news are going to put down any movie that doesn’t fit their way of thinking, no matter how much truth there is in the movie.
Neo-cons must keep the bush dictatorship going 3 more years at any cost.

I think you’re overlooking something here brian28---why sue the red herrings that fall into your lap. Let the strangely “divided” nation argue amongst themselves about Michael Moore.

Fukuyama (sp?)---the neoliberal neocon Godfather, has admitted that it is an erroneous and unsustainable vision. The neocons in the administration are deadenders, losers, and criminals soon to be trapped like rats (God willing).

I’m looking forward to the spectacle of Patrick Fitzgerald prosecuting Dick Cheney for treason. How could it not be art? Law has a lot more punch and consequence in our society than culture, no matter how it appears on television, in the magazines, and on campus.

The outing of a CIA agent (which probably blew the lid off of the entire operation) specializing in WMD and Iran; and catching the traitors who screwed the pooch is the stuff of Shakespeare. This is happening and consequential on so many levels at once it’s electrifying!

Ain’t it grand that so many talented people can afford to make documentaries about it?!

BTW, there are all kinds of documentaries and world films available as rentals for anyone who wants to expose themselves to the arts and media of other cultures, indymedia, and in depth political/social documentaries.  People rent them, people buy them, they stay in production long after the applause from the awards are over.
