The Gulf Rush

By Cynthia L. Cooper

While President Bush was making a post-Katrina “show” landing in New Orleans on January 12, declaring it a “heck of a place to bring your family,” Tomas Aguilar was trying to absorb the hell of a situation faced by thousands of immigrant workers. Not far from where the president spoke, Aguilar had seen immigrants working 12-hour days and living in… return to article

This type of story is exactly why independent progresssive media is so crucial.

I think they are generally doing a great job telling important stories, but we need to more fully embrace online video. This is a medium that is growing more important as we speak and we must take advantage of it.

One service I did find that takes advantage of online vidoe is the COA News “Video Alert Service” where once a week, they send email subscribers online news videos for free. Through-out the week they scan their independent media affiliates and feature the best independent news and public affairs video available.

People may be disgusted, appalled, and angry, but this kind of story never comes as a suprise.  Amongst the American populace it is almost universally understood, if rarely vocalized, that a typical corporate entity will seek monetary and material gain at the expense of anything and everything else.

The lack of suitable government infrastructure, the mishandling of New Orleans crises by a number of existing agencies, and the poor treatment immigrants typically receive from run-of-the-mill citizens nationwide all add up to a bleak outlook for any immigrant who tries to contribute to the relief efforts.

Hy ryaninfo. Agreed, I would also like more audio---like Fire on the Prairie(ITT) on-line so I can listen while I work.

This article points out one more example of the inherent opportunism, inefficiency, corruption, and amoral decision making in neoliberal or neocon (a thorn is a thorn is a thorn) economic practices. It’s a ponzi scheme. It’s a profiteering free-for all. And I’m going to rant about it while I finish my first cup of coffee, here.

New Orleans is an American city, and a great American port. If most U.S. citizens had enough information and understanding, I think they would agree that America should have saved the city and citizens of New Orleans (and all the hurrican victims) with NGO social programs as supplements. America should help New Orleans rebuild itself.

America should have repaired the damns properly in the first place.

Many citizens sent money to help the victims of New Orleans and volunteered to help. Where was the government that the taxpaying citizens and anyone who buys something that’s been shipped across state lines, or makes interstate calls, or buys liquor or cigarettes, has given money to?

What are we giving these rat bastards all this money for? The government can’t account for trillions of dollars! Clearly our government hasn’t been in penury for long. If we can afford a completely useless project like Star Wars, then we can afford to drop the completely useless project and others like it and use our collective national income to improve our lives and save us when we’re drowning.  Instead, Halliburton gets millions to throw the drowning victims an anvil and hires illegal immigrants to do the work, while natives are prevented from returning to their homes and are unemployed elsewhere.

What does united we stand mean? Really.

Congratulations to everyone! The impeachment movement has done it again. Today’s San Francisco Chronicle (Monday, March 13, 2006) carries the full page ad calling for the Impeachment of Bush, Cheney and other high officials! This ad comes directly on the heels of the widely and nationally reported actions by the San Francisco Board of Supervisors calling for the Democratic delegation to support impeachment in Congress.

A great thanks goes to all those who contributed to make this ad happen. As with the New York Times ad placed in January, this ad will bring tens of thousands of new people into the campaign to Impeach Bush. We want to maintain the momentum and place the ad in various other newspapers and run radio spots as well. We can do it with everyone’s continued support and commitment to this campaign.

Click here to make a donation to help place more full page ads.

With each passing day this movement is going stronger and more powerful. It is becoming a voice that cannot be silenced or ignored. Today, Senator Russ Feingold is introducing a resolution calling for the censure of President Bush. This is a good sign, and evidence that the heat from the impeachment campaign demanding accountability of high officials is being felt, but it is not enough. Only by continuing the public pressure will impeachment become a reality.

And remember—tell your family and friends to vote in the impeachment referendum by going to http://www.impeachbush.org/ !

Please help us take the next steps and keep this momentum building. If every member and supporter of the impeachment movement made a donation, this ad could be placed in newspapers across the country. If you have contributed before, consider making another donation now. If you have never donated, this is the time to take action. Please donate today by clicking here.
bush is the worst disaster to hit the U.S. You want to help Katrina victims vote these rat bastards out of office.

Your little made up story is funny, but it’s not true.  I have friends that live in N.O. and they laughed at your story.

You liberals might have a chance of winning an election if you dealt in reality instead of delusion.

    No wonder FoxNews is #1.
