Iran Exports Anti-Gay Pogrom to Iraq

By Doug Ireland

Shiite death squads in Iraq are carrying out a campaign that targets gay men for murder. This so-called “sexual cleansing” is happening under the nose of the U.S. military—but American authorities in the Green Zone have refused to do anything about it. The highly organized campaign of beatings, kidnappings and murders of Iraqi gays follows a death-to-gays fatwa issued last October… return to article

In case you haven’t heard, Tom Friedman says Sistani is one of the “good guys”.
    ———————————& ———-

    Duncan Currie —The Weekly Standard
    05/10/2006

‘In March of 2005, New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman went so far as to endorse Sistani for the Nobel Peace Prize.

“The process of democratizing the Arab world is going to be long and bumpy,” wrote Friedman. “But the chances for success are immeasurably improved when we have partners from within the region who are legitimate, but have progressive instincts. That is Mr. Sistani.” ‘

    Now imagine the bad guys.

next time you demand the USA pull out of iraq like yesterday, think of whether the killings will go up or down in the following weeks, and who will be killed.

Hurl insults at poor ol inarticulate bush all you want to “entlightened” liberals. He did not invent the Islamists. They are real; they are tough; and they intend to bring back the middle ages with a vengeance. And millions of Muslims around the world think that is just fine.

    WTH
Sistani is one of the bad guys, NOW imagine the good ones ?
Tom Friedman’s opinion is not gospel.

Knocko—- the “Islamists” you so hate, and we all dislike, are there because GW BUSH invited them to the party.

The painful truth is that the US Miltary and the GW BUSH Administration’s TOTAL UNCONCERN about this persecution is unsurprising.

They do not give a damn how many are killed, as long as the American people remain unmoved , and do not rise up in outrage at the next bullshit speech about Freedum and Demahcracy..

It makes sense that the U.S. occupying army is not concerned by this outrageous assault on gays in the Muslim world, because they are led by a religious extremist, a Christian religious extremist in Bush. Right-wing Islam and right-wing Christiantiy are quite similar in their agendas: death to all gays, interweaving church and state, and rolling back all gender progress. It makes sense that republicans never minded supporting Sistani inthe first place, but why does the religious right condemn fundamnetlaist Islam when it has the exact same agenda just under a different God’s name?

What this article also shows is how beneficial this war was to Iran. Religious Shiites in Iraq are very cozy with the Iranian Mullahs and militias loyal to Iran roam the streets of Basra and other parts of Southern Iraq. Far from fighting Islamic extremism, the invasion and occupation of iraq has greatly strengthened it. If only America had listened to the liberals, we wouldn’t have been in this place at all.

    liberal
this war, or rather Occupation , was ONLY beneficial, up to now,  to the reactionary element in Iran, because as I’m sure you know,  iran has as many shades of opinion in it as our respective countries !

I’m not even sure Bush IS a religious extremist, but I am sure he plays to them.
