Richard Perle: It Pays To Be the Prince of Darkness

By Frida Berrigan

Richard Perle is a busy guy these days, what with his long-desired war against Iraq in full swing, plus a lucrative consulting business on the side. As the chairman of the Defense Policy Board, Perle is a close adviser to Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, with an insider’s perspective on the Pentagon, the war in Iraq and the ongoing war on… return to article

It shows how the progressively elite beltway politicians can a make a profit from the American economy that’s limping along at the requests of the skiddish investors from such coporate giants behaving badly with investors cash.

Thank you Frida Berrigan and In These Times. We are starved for true and relevant information these days. Are you any relation to the Pastors for Peace guy? Be proud if you are. Folks with any sense of ethical behavior at all have no oportunity for justice in this system. Perhaps we should all abandon moral behavior entirely - we would merely be following the leaders, and leveling the playing field. Oh, except they have all the weapons of mass destruction and the itch to use them…

Or did we abandon hope already and I was just too busy writing to my Senators to notice?

How could you write about Dick Perle and neglect to mention the reason he’s called the Prince of Darkness? In the 1980s, this character demanded a US nuclear strike on the USSR, which would have started the Big One and killed everybody. Only the Evil One himself hates humanity more than Richard Perle does.

Would that Mr. Perele would slip
quietly into the sunset so that a
year from now, in Primaries Season,we should not be subjected to the incessant banter of the talking heads squawking."Perle", “Global Crossing","What did the president know and..” yada yada ad nauseam.

I lived in Las Vegas for fifteen yrs. and people would say organized crime no longer exist there. Im sure O.C. just branched out to Wall St. & D.C. Im sure they were always there too, but never shined as brightly out in the open as they do now.

In Canada, We give our leaders hell if they have ownership in a golf club. We made a minister sell his shipping company because he ‘considered’ running for PM. And Americans mock us…
If there are no interests, there are no conflicts. But then again, these guys can never have enough friends…

I think if people keep exposing of Perle’s behind the scene deals and deeds the poor fellow would commit suicide!

Cheers*

I think you have done sterling work throughout this anti-war campaign. Marvellous. AS for Richard Perle, i am glad for this piece because I am trying to pluck up the courage to write to Newsnight (a daily t.v. broadcast) who have given him too much airwave time in the past. He always pops up to be interviewed. I hate him - he is a nasty piece of work.

Perle is the kind of a guy who would rather burn his hut down just to boil a couple of eggs. That this unelected character and his neocon cohort have so much influence in Bush-II administration is an American tragedy.

Last time I checked, Global Crossing was a Bermudan company. Why does the Pentagon and FBI get a say in the dealings of a foreign corporation? Why isn’t Bermuda up in arms about this interference in their sovereignty? Aw. Just kidding. But one has to wonder if Perle isn’t more Bermudan than American in his loyalties.

Perle was outed by Hersh in the early 80’s as a spy for Israel. Perle’s hated Hersh ever since.

Kissinger and Nixon in the White House

“...document in question in Sonnenfeldt’s case, however, was an FBI summary of a wiretap on the Israeli Embassy in which Richard N. Perle, an aide to Senator Henry Jackson, was overheard discussing classified information that had been supplied to him by someone on the National Security Council staff. Hoover, following normal practice with sensitive materials from embassy wiretaps, had sent the document to Kissinger. Kissinger hesitated a few days. Then, despite his insistence that he was out of the internal-security business after May of 1970, he forwarded the material to Haldeman, who immediately telephoned Hoover, according to FBI documents, and ordered that the FBI be assigned to determine which NSC staffer was in contact with Richard Perle.

Haldeman and Nixon must have hit the roof. In a telephone call on October 15, 1970, to Hoover, Haldeman invoked the name of Henry Kissinger in asking for another wiretap on Sonnenfeldt. Kissinger had to realize that Haldeman and Hoover would suspect Sonnenfeldt, who was known from previous wiretaps to have close ties to the Israelis as well as to Perle.”

Here’s an interesting bit from Maureen Dowd’s piece on Perle: http://truthout.org/docs_03/032503E.shtml

Wednesday [Perle] participated in a Goldman Sachs conference call to advise clients on investment opportunities arising from the war, titled, “Implications of an Imminent War: Iraq Now. North Korea Next?”

Israels gain American and Muslim pain.

Question should be asked why this man is such position especially after he was caught selling US secrets to a foriegn power - Israel. Surely beyond doubt where is interst lies. He single handedly has created the Iraq war to benefit his patrons in Israel and his bank balance. He should be hanged - by the balls.

In defense of The Prince of Darkness here is what Yakov Kagan, Chabad of Contra Costa (Lubavitch), Walnut Creek ,have to say:

Judaism teaches us that one cannot be neutral when it comes to holy and unholy, good and evil. One must take a stand and define his position pro or con. It takes great vision and bravery to choose to eradicate the evil but there are those who recognize their mission to transform the world into a G- dly domain.

We can Thank G-d for America and its leaders who are brave enough to stand up to evil in its source and commit themselves to destroying it. As G-d accompanied Moses on his mission to destroy the Evil leader of ancient Egypt so let us pray that G-d will accompany our troops and commander in chief toward facing down today’s evil tyrants.

Frida Bergman notes that, “As the chairman of the Defense Policy Board, Perle is a close adviser to Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld,”

As Chairman of the Defense Policy Board, Mr. Perle receives a stipend, and his position in TERMS OF COMPENSATION is the equivalent of a local banker sitting as an advisor to the city parks board.

The vitrolic hatred of Perle and Wolfowitz is a reflection of the growing hatred of Jews world wide, all predicted in the both the Old and New Testament. The Bush Administration has fewer Jews in key positions than the Clinton Administration (Sandy Burger NSA, Albright Sec State, among others) yet the few that are there draw incredible fire. The difference is that President Bush is an evagelical who loves Israel while President Clinton was a poser who, presently, only loves himself.

Perle’s nickname is well deserved. However, his unbridled arrogance is starting to catch up with him, now that Conyers has demanded an inquiry into his affairs. I hear there is an empty cell right next to Jonathan Pollard. I think they would really enjoy each other’s company.

Nothing shocks me about the corruption in the government. The government has long lost the democratic system and assume full power with constant big lie : we are doing this for freedom and peasce throughout the world.
And we, as americans get just what we deserve. We let a president get elected by the Supreme Court; we let Congress get away with letting the little shrub have his war. We don’t vote or we do without knowing what is at stake. We accept the new medias evaluation of the “news” of the day. We let ourselves be frighten by threat of being a traitor if we don’t go along.

Will somebody pleae say: “inpeach?”

United States Posted by Joseph Lindsley on Mar 26, 2003 at 6:54 PM

Why hasn’t the mainstream press picked up on this story? Why was Perle interviewed on ABC last night by Jennings and why where questions pertaining to these accusations not asked of him?

As the marines are 50 kilometres out of Baghdad, Richard Perle the Prince of Darkness resigned. What a loss for the War party.
We have loss a dual patriot. He is planning to take vacations in the south of France.

Thanks to all of you who have taken the time to respond to my story.

We have a small victory to celebrate.

Richard Perle announced his resignation as Chair of the Defense Policy Board yesterday, saying “with our nation at war and American troops risking their lives to protect our freedom and liberate Iraq,” he did not want to DPB to be “burdened by controversy.”

What Perle’s resignation letter did NOT say (and this is why this is only a small victory) is that he is remaining on the DPB and will continue to advise the Secretary of Defense.

When asked about his resignation by New York Times reporter Stephen Labaton, Perle responded angrily, saying: “Let me just tell you something. If I had [resigned] you’d be the last person in the world I’d want to talk to.” And then he hung up.

Labaton broke the story about Perle’s arrangement with Global Crossing.

Richard Perle is exposed ifor what he is in Pat Robertsons American Conservative article entitled “Whos War”. I suggest that all Americans read this article as we witness the battles that are ongoing in Iraq. Vistit the American Conservative website and read this disturbing article.

The Bush Regime seems to have adopted a Political Philsophy based on EGOISM:
Egoism is defined as:

1. the habit of valuing everything only in reference to one’s personal interest.
2. egotism or conceit.
3. the view in ethics that morality ultimately rests on self-interest.

Calling a human being the “prince of darkness” is low class!! It annoys me and makes the left look foolish. I am against the war, and hate to see this term still being utilized. To some this all seems to be a big joke at the expense of many others. I’m tired at looking at those trash playing cards also, which are on the other side of the page. I’m going to another site now. Boo, Hoo!!

United States Posted by Bobby on Sep 17, 2003 at 3:42 AM

Folks, please educate me if you believe I am wrong. Doesn’t the combination of our bellicose military stance combined with the avarice embodied by wheeler-dealer/political “visionaries” like Pearle, along with dimunation of human rights, along with the idea that dissent is “unpatriotic”, isn’t all this pretty much equal to fascism? And IF that is true, is it productive, or is it counter productive, to shout that fact from the rooftops? Thoughts?

dear ms berrigan:

i’ve written this letter quite a few times to no avail--I’m not sure where to start.

i’m concerned about the use of secret high tech surveillance weapons to intrude, steal information and coerce.

a simpler way to put it would be to talk of the clearly visible radiological harm on conflict areas and on selected individuals in other
places.

also that I’v been obviously pursued by UAV’s, often.

perhaps you know some about this already-- but people don’t reply, or if they do they don’t ask me what I
know. I have to wonder how others feel they know all they need to about this matter.

I’d be happy to tell you some things about the Australian exposure, or
to send on notes or fictional representation.

Can you make a contact?

Following are two letters I wrote yesterday-- none through to Bagdad

sincerely, kim seabrook

Editors, Inymedia Melbourne
re:yesterday’s email to you re:email to Baghdad re: radiological effects

The email failed to get through yesterday and
it has failed to get through three times today. I often
have this problem with communication of this matter.
