He announced that 14 individuals previously held in these secret jails had been transferred to the “detention facility” on Guantánamo Bay Naval Base. The president claimed that no other individuals were currently being held at these CIA “black… return to article

it’s also important to appreciate how in the mainstream media all prisons are invisibilized. . . like the Law and Order TV show, which never shows prisons; incarceration as a paradigmatic institution of “democracy” is never considered.
these practices of course should not shock anyone aquainted with conditions of U.S. prisons.  however what should be shocking is the fervor with which the likes of Matt Lauer are incensed at the possibility of these being “illegal” especially when it is the decision of those hawks in DC to decide what’s legal and what isn’t.  the question for Lauer should be if these practices were legal, would they be okay?  it all speaks to the fragile guilt complex of the U.S. psyche, Lauer just wants to follow the law. . .doesn’t matter what that law says of does, as long as it’s followed. . . fascism yes, but also nothing new.  and if anyone thinks it is, read some George Jackson.

dpstein....Yeah....Matt Lauer and that whole network TV crowd are guilty of incompetence as far as performing their jobs...very little real journalism...goin on…

It’s been a long time sense Redhorse has read “ Blood in My Eye “....lent it to a friend , never got it back...ya know....

At approximately 8% of the world population...the US incarcerates 25% of the prisoners on this planet....Supposedly the worlds greatest democracy ; but can’t find a better way to deal with so-called criminals...most are non- violent offenders...Now they have prison for profit...so the incentive to lock folks up is stronger than ever.......What a nation..............

Just viewed this on google , thought it to be very relevant to the discussion...titled.”.Book’em Undereducated , Overincarcerated.”....

www.youthrightsmedia.org......check it out....prisons for profit...Blood in my eye.....

“all that must happen for evil to triumph is for good people do nothing”
We Americans are a good people ,how can we allow our goverment ,ourselves ,to torture people..hold people without hearings or access to attorneys? We must stop these horrible practices and indict those who put them in place and participated in them.
.We have allowed these people, using terrorist as the excuse, to destroy what was good and sacred about America..The Rule of Law and Due Proces..
How can we possibly lecture Iran , China or other countries about human rights abuses when we are doing the same or worse..?
and something else to consider............. those individuals who are being whisked away from their families and tortured in some hell hole ,,that are completely innocent,,,,how many of those will now turn into terrorist ?
Watch the movie RENDITION ,,and the true stories behind it in the directors cut
