Thirty More Years

Back in 1976, when James Weinstein decided to move to Chicago to start In These Times, his inspiration was Appeal to Reason, a socialist weekly published out of Girard, Kansas, between 1895 and 1922. At its peak in 1912, the paper had 761,000 subscribers—including 38,000 in Oklahoma. When the Post Office banned its special issues, which had print runs in… return to article

Even the late Pat Moynihan, no radical, said that the purpose of classification is not to keep out the Soviets but a means for US bureaucrats to cover their backsides. We still have stuff from WW2 and
the JFK murder classified among many others. Ever since Reagan FedGov has been dragging its feet on the FOIA. Freedom of Information Act. It’s amazing that the media-govt brainwashed sheeple here allow that to continue.

Sigh… Sad to have your message’s first replies be part of our ongoing comedy of errors here, but for a new user such as myself its nice to get a glimpse of the people behind the scenes at ITT. While I would like to ask about changes you have witnessed in the quantity and quality of participation by posters here, but I don’t want to put you on the spot. Just curious about insights from one with the long view.

Joel I would like to express my gratitude for your contribution in making this site possible. I have read a lot of really insightful articles and discussion here, and am impressed that the tolerance preached is definitely practiced. Your article is timely in that I believe we really need to examine the media as our first priority right now, and the place to begin is as we read; left to right. The former has sure been poorly represented over the last decade, and we need to seriously regroup and reshape the structure of our content and presentation. Hopefully the upcoming Frontline series will be a start.

One question I would ask is if you know anything about an interview with a young officer regarding the missile strike on the Al-Jazeera Baghdad office in the early days of the occupation. A friend who follows news closely saw it, and yet neither of us has been able to find anything online about it. Have you heard of any such interview? Thanks again for taking time to update us newbies, and I hope this site can continue. I shall look for your book.
