Why does India not allow the Kashmiris to make up their own minds? All it takes is a fair internationally supervised election. Too many politicians in both India and Pakistan sit in judgement with their petty prejudiced views over the kashmir issue. Militancy is not the only problem in Kashmir, the atrocities committed by indian troops and paramilitaries are also major problems. Perhaps that is why some people are driven to join the militant groups as the ony way to fight this oppression. As with Palestine the extremists feed off each other. People simply either deny that kashmiris are oppressed (indian politicians particularly the BJP and its cohorts) or deny that muslim extremists are causing problems (Pakistani politicians of various parties). I dont trust either Vajpayee or Musharaff to deliver justice to the Kashmiri people.
