Last summer, I had the chance to sit down with Flozelle Woodmore in a drab, cafeteria-style visiting room in the Central California Women's Facility (CCWF), located in the small town of Chowchilla. At 39 years of age, Woodmore has lived her entire adult life in prison. [RETURN TO ARTICLE]

FLOZELLE IS FREE!
All indications are that she will be released this week. The issues underlying her case are still relevant to thousands of other women in the California system and elsewhere, but this is a truly significant victory, for Woodmore, her family, and for those of us who have argued for her freedom for years.

One does not have to be female to find themselves in a position similar to Flozelles’s. In any case, i am glad she has been freed and hope she makes a life for herself. Hopefully she will make much better choices this time around.
I was intrigued with this passage from the article “[Woodmore has] taken on the role of counseling other women coming into the system with histories of abuse.” It seems to me the state should offer a position of employment continuing this role to presumably hundreds, if not thousands of women.
Silja ~ Thank you for keeping us posted on Flozelle’s release. It takes a lot of courage to change some of the patterns in our lives. The fight for freedom is one we can all embrace. So many have given so much for our rights.
There is more attention being given to treatment programs and re-entry for the upcoming year with the same attention given Faith Based Community Programs as 5-6 years ago. The old laws, and sentencing guidelines still need to be changed.
Our prayers for successful re-entry are with Flozelle, her family, and all our incarcerated loved ones! W~
