I would be very careful about what I said, if Babs were my mother-in-law!!!

One might also wonder how Hilary slept at night (at least her husband was pre-satisfied!).

How does Laura Bush sleep at night? She hides the Viagra, swallows a few ambien with a bottle of Grey Goose; her pretty head hits the pillow and she counts sheep. You know, Republicans and most Democrats in Congress.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for a perspective that is long overdue. Laura Bush comes across as so “nice” and “sweet”; afterall, she bakes her own cookies, re-upholsters White House furniture (that Hillary neglected - oh my), and even writes a book sharing her down-home goodness.
The fact of the matter is that she’s a 21st century American woman who is in a very high-ranking position of power with enough money backing her to single-handlely lift an entire Central American country out of poverty. Instead, she bakes cookies.
Laura Bush has chosen to descrate her power and remain mute about looming and alarming issues such as the war in Iraq and the dismantling of women’s rights here in the U.S., among a zillion other issues that her husband’s administration has created. She could be and should be on the front lines with her opinions, agendas, social and public works that actually affect the lives of U.S. citizens (remember Eleanor?).
Laura Bush is an utter disgrace and a failure. The only thing she could do to restore any type of self-dignity would be to announce to the American and Iraqi people that she’s divorcing George Bush due to his unethical and immoral actions that have destroyed the lives of thousands. Don’t say it can’t be done—remember Princess Diana?

Well said, Susan. I agree…
The Laura we “know”, like the rest of the Bush clan, is a facade. Her frozen smile and empty gaze belie the “good woman” image with which she is portrayed. Closer observation reveals a woman without a voice, essentially powerless and desperately unhappy. I doubt she knows who Laura Bush is - not an enviable position to be in.
Nevertheless, she, like all of us, bears responsibility for the incalculable suffering that this clan and company has imposed on our world.

Hm, seems unreasonable to expect the president’s wife to openly challenge his policies, even (especially?) a policy of war. Her influence would be better felt, perhaps, in behind-the-scenes conversations, rather than feeding the public relations storm that would surely ensue if she came out and vocally denounced the Iraq war, for example. She might reasonably conclude that George’s political currency would be greatly damaged if she were to have opposed the invasion of Iraq, and as we recall, back in early 2003 and before, he had a great deal more of that currency than at present. Hadn’t had time to fuck things up so much yet.
And, she likely thinks his initiatives are correct.
She most likely has been following the agreed-upon role that the two of them discussed when his electoral fortunes back in 2000 started to resemble the chance of a win. After that (bitter) day in November, then again after 9/11, and certainly in the lead-up to March 2003, I’d guess that her role as his supportive First Lady was repeatedly discussed. She’s been doing as she thought best, in the interest of his administration and as the couple and their advisors had decided upon. The role she has fulfilled seems entirely consistent with the other important aspects of what his role, the really pivotal one, has required (my disagreement and disgust with how he’s fulfilled his role notwithstanding).
It’s not really her that draws my attention, it’s him, and the faction who got him into office.
Draws my fire, that is. Rhetorically speaking.

According to her biography, at the age of 16 she rammed through an intersection, broadsided a pick-up driven by her boyfriend, and killed him. No police were brought in; no charges were filed; and innocent little Laura returned to school two weeks letter and life went on as if nothing had ever happened. Lose sleep over the murderous excesses of her despicable husband? Hell, no. She’s quite the matronly sociopath herself.

This article gives far too much credit to W for the things that transpired. The war in Afghan is a rug cover for the war at home. With civilization and affluence has come the demise of men’s contribution to the choice of who’s in the next generation. So Rove and co. are busy trying to stuff the satin genie back into the bottle, while our fellow men of Islam are trying to contain the oil slick of feminine freedom that leads to rolling (in their grave) ancestors. I boil it down to a simple question:
In your home, is the toilet seat up? or down?

Laura is all but the epitome of Southern women…the empty headed types, that is.
She was raised to stand by her man, regardless.
Remember the Convention, where she allowed Shrub to squeeze her ass, on National TV no less, so that he could appear to be macho?
Any woman who would put up with a drunk, draft dodging coke head would have no trouble getting doped up and falling asleep.
The more germane question is how does the Shrub sleep at night?
Every night, he is in bed early and sleeps all night, waking fully refreshed and ready for another vacation.
In Drapers’ latest book about the Shrub, he (shrub) is quoted as saying “I’ve cried more tears than you can count”. Possibly on election night in ‘06.
Another equally germane question is how does the Democratic Party leadership, using that term very loosely, sleep at night?
Guess selling their souls and the future of our country is very tiring work.

Apparently her web lackeys take weekend language lessons from Mr. Bush:
The caption of the current lead photo on Laura’s site: “President George W. Bush and Mrs. Laura Bush join students and facility at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Charter School…”
Lucky facility…

Mrs Bush’s atitude doesn’t differ much to that of a great part of the American people who, while millions went out on the streets in many parts of the world to oppose the insane war on Irak, chose to be too busy to notice what was done in their name. Even now, after the disclosure of torture practices, and the fact that two countries have been damaged for no purpose (sorry, I forgot to take into account the presence of oil under their soil), both majority parties keep changing the subject when the problem arises and only minor groups are trying to stop the empire’s deeds. If I were her, I’m afraid I’d be more than happy to keep mute. I miss Eleanor and what the USA stood for in those days.

Laura Bush has always seemed lethargic to me and I assumed, like so much of our population, that she was on prescription drugs. She seems quite fragile mentally, and if so, her consciousness is deeply buried, like her old boy friend. I find her pathetic.

How does Laura Bush sleep? She takes her xanax by cereal bowl. And she’s not alone. Have you not noticed how lethargic first ladies get?
