Offsets Aren’t Enough

Two environmental groups cave in to Big Coal in Texas.

As someone who once sunk a shrimp boat as an act of civil disobedience, Diane Wilson was disappointed when two big environmental groups opted for a less-than risky alternative to blocking a new coal-burning power plant that's poised to blaze in her community of Calhoun [RETURN TO ARTICLE]

Offsets aren’t enough, I agree.  Look at the Europeans and cap-and-trade—it’s not reducing overall CO2 concentrations, but the utilities sure are making money off it!  I am very disappointed in Big Green.  They are good at spin and press releases, but it’s a lot of bull.  People are paying attention.  Everyone I know who actually thinks intelligently about these issues is alarmed—very alarmed.  This is not the time for half-way measures.  This is like EDF arguing for gasified coal - it’s a joke.  These folks should get a job from the fossil fuel industry—come to think of it, they have!  The Joyce Foundation has given out $5-7 million to “enviro’s” to push clean coal.  And oh yes, war is peace! We’re winning in Iraq!  Coal is clean!  I am glad I don’t have to get paid to be a fossil fuel toady.

Time to start stocking up on sunscreen.  After reading this article and listening to a piece on NPR yesterday I am becoming more and more concerned that we are doomed.

NPR played a piece yesterday concerning Russia, Canada, and the US all fighting to gain the mineral rights to parts of the Artic.  See, these countries and big business think that 100 years from now there will be less ice in the Artic so it will be easier to get at certain minerals, one of them of course would be drilling for oil.  They WANT it that way.

The world is addicted to Fossil Fuels and so far the Enviromental Movement has been about as effective as Lindsey Lohan’s Rehab counselors.

It’s time to take action folks.
