Scandalous Measures

States might lose controls on corporate crooks

By A.C. Thompson and James A. Thompson

The Bush administration is quietly seeking to roll back oversight of the banking business and the scandal-riddled securities market through two pending proposals—a planned rule change for the banking industry and a house bill—that diminish the ability of states to police banks and stock brokers. The plans are worrisome because the federal government has been largely MIA when it comes to… return to article

The coup de etat’ advances and we remain entranced by the “bread and circuses” tenor of news and views. Even on the minimal “left,” we are so focused on specific issues, that secret agendas are passed every day that are leading to what one Shell Oil scientist (ret) Claude Ake has called, “the militarization of commerce and the privaization of government.”  Lord, how the U.S. of Amnesia needs a wake up call. In Brazil, many cars now sport bumper stickers that say: “Veja! Que Mentira” (Look! What a Lie!).  This needs to be blazoned across the sky all day long, in Amerikka.

““Our banks operate in 50 states and you have 50 states passing consumer protection laws” Boo-Hoo!! If you don’t like the laws that the people of a given state have passed, don’t do business there!! In fact what these bastards want is no laws, unless of course they are custom written by them.

I agree with Mike Harvey, but would like to add that the Bush admin doesn’t need laws, they just issue executive orders.

The ‘thief-in-chief’ has decieved many and most stunningly, those who call themselves ‘born again’ Christians.

This is the most un-Christian, and truly evil administration the world has ever seen.  Beyond rhetorical lip service, there is nothing remotely Christian about this administration.  Indeed, it’s policies and actions appear more and more, to mirror those of Nazi Germany.

Typical of Bush to tell the masses
that he will hold the corporate crooks accountable then slip them a pass so that they can continue business as usual. Just like the VP saying that he no longer has any ties to Halliburton. Both liars and crooks of the first magnitude. People need to wake up and see what is happening with this so called government before it is too late. Stopping the vote counting should have told everyone all they needed to know about how this administration would really function.
Etc…Jeb Bush influence peddling. It never ends…and the Democrats are doing very little to keep it fore front in the media. It’s all a very scary trend that seems to be acceptable by both parties. What do we have to do? Redefine our treason laws to include those that don’t do their job once the privilege of being a “leader” has been accepted. Enact some form of Capital Punishment for corrupt and treasonous politicians?

The Bush administration spokesperson said this new set of rules was just “housekeeping.”  When I was in the Air Force we had a joke went, “How do you know when a military recruiter is lying?  His lips are moving.”

    A word to the wise….

I think you are all missing the point….oil & gas companies are the true government of our country, with politicians (Democrats or Republicans) passing bills to protect the oil and gas companies investments, protect them from lawsuits and in general do what ever they want. It doesn’t matter which party is in the White House, the government is protecting the corporations from the people..not protecting us from the corporations. Every war since WW2 has been fought for energy, either oil, natural gas or electric…the only way to stop this type of reasoning is to force the energy corporations out of Washington DC and back to the oil patch..in other words..we must start to use alternative energy sources..such as solar, coal whatever, and try to free ourselves from the corporate wheel.

The criminals are not even hiding anymore, they are blatently in our face. The Pirates have almost consolidated their rule of Earth.

I guess they want to put themselves out of business.  Who can you trust?  I guess we will have to go back to ancient days of keeping our bills in our mattress and even then they will find a way of getting at that. (New mattress tax anyone?)

I mean to say that a person (especially myself) will trust no one with my money.  The last stock market crash should’ve taught us that giving our money to a total stranger or even worse, a corporation is a foolish thing.

I say protest by boycotting all stock brokerages and banks.  Hail to my mattress!! - The only god forsaken place left to entrust my money.  Just watch out for the mother-in-law.
