The View From Ohio

Will voters in the economically ravaged Buckeye State 'get over' race and support Obama?

By David Moberg

Winning Ohio will be important, maybe even essential, for Sens. Barack Obama and John McCain this fall. And the decision will likely come down to the wire, depending in part on wavering voters like Ruth Santo, a retired department store manager living in Rocky River, [RETURN TO ARTICLE]

What a joke - an article by a University of Chicago guy (obviously in the tank for Obama) calling Ohio residents racists if they don’t vote for Obama.  How about this?  I’m NOT voting for Obama because:

I don’t agree with the far left (dare I say socialist?!) agenda Obama spouts in his pretty speeches.

Obama doesn’t have experience leading anything.  McCain has led in the navy, has shown himself to be a tested man of honor, and actually has a track record in the Senate that I can look at to get a sense of his great, proven ability to get the job done.

Obama’s charge that people in PA are bitter clinging to their guns and religion told me exactly what he thinks of this part of the country.

I am appalled at the way the Obama campaign savaged Joe the Plumber for simply asking a question.  It makes me wonder if America will be allowed to question anything in an Obama administration.

And lastly, but most importantly,  I’m with Martin Luther King, Jr. when he said:  “Judge a man not by the color of his skin, but by the content of his character.”

I have a problem putting any credibility into your article when you will not even acknowledge real facts.

Yes, Bush won in 2004 because he took Florida fair and square.  Even two studies by outside newspapers concluded this.  So I questioned why you continue the false statement that the Republlican and their shenanigans is what cost the Dems the election.

The economy is in deep trouble but much of the blame must go to liberal Democrats led by Senator Chris Dodd, Congressman Barney Frank who for years and as late as this summer, denied that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were big risks that could lead to big financial problems.  It was the Dems that constantly stonewalled for years requests from the Bush Admininstration to toughen regulations.  At the same time, everybody but mostly the Dems were promoting suprime mortgae loans.

You cover Ohio’s bad economy and it is bad.  However, you do not take into accouont that Ohio ranks seventh-highest in taxes, and having an indexed minimum wage higher that the federal rate.  In addition it is not a “right to work state.”  Who wants to come to Ohio and manufacturer products with this kind of enviornment?

Then you have Senator Brown and Congresswoman Betty Sutton both solidly unionists and where much of their campaign money comes from missing opportunities to increase jobs because of their dislike for NAFTA and in one of the most egregious acts of stupidity voted against the Columbian Free Trade Agreement.

I could go on but if you cannot see both sides of an issue, then you are only writing for the liberal choir and your article becomes useless to me

Racial generalizations are unneeded and degrading

    “I’m not a racist, but…”
I am sick of seeing/hearing this kind of BS!  If you won’t vote for a half black Barack Obama, then say so, and to hell with you!

FYI: I am a 70 year old white veteran of 28 years in the US Air Force.  I retired in 1986.  Then I worked for Tulare County CA for 22 years And retired for good last June.
Naturally, I voted for Obama-Biden!  I don’t vote against my own best interests!
