I continue to marvel at the ability of Hans Johnson to take complicated, stodgy, potentially numbing political information and make it vibrant, elegant and, most of all, a call to action. Johnson invites his readers to participate in the bigger picture by speaking in plain terms and connecting the dots. We are not all politically savvy, but each time after reading his columns I feel increasingly like a well-educated insider.

Good news on NY-26
Your report is obsolete: Jon Powers, the antiwar Iraq veteran who lost the Dem Primary, will not be on the Working Families Party (WFP) line.
Today I received an email from Powers, endorsing Alice Kryzan:
“Over the last 18 months ... I listened to families struggling because of our weakened economy, soldiers fighting in a war without the necessary equipment and returning without health care they have earned .... We have a chance to elect a new Member of Congress to represent the working men and women of Western New York and I hope you will join me in supporting Alice Kryzan for Congress.”
New York allows “fusion” voting: all votes for a candidate running on multiple lines are counted for that candidate. Minor parties such as WFP and the Conservative Party usually endorse the candidate of the ideologically closest major party, but all the primaries are the same day.
Once a candidate has been nominated s/he can only be replaced on the ballot by moving out of state, death, or (if eligible) accepting a nomination for a judgeship. Powers accepted a job educating voters around the country on veterans issues, allowing the WFP to nominate Kryzan.
The WFP line enables strongly independent voters to vote for progressive Dems without voting on the Dem line. Votes on the WFP line have provided the margin of victory in a several key races.

Mary Jo Kilroy is the most corrupt, NON-RESPONSIVE politician EVER. she is WORSE EVEN THAN VOINOVICH about responding to her constituents. we left CPS when she was on it because they were crap(except for the late great Bill Moss). now she is Franklin county commissioner, and doing her best to destroy the county now she succeeded in destroying CPS(along with help from Gene Harris). vote for anybody BUT Kilroy. pure poison.
