Thanks for the interesting piece. Another tidbit is that Harvey Milk was not the first out homosexual elected to office. Kathy Kozachenko, an out lesbian, ran and was elected to the Ann Arbor city council in early 1974. A part of the Human Rights Party. There was already an out lesbian on the commission, but she had come out after the election. I was there, supported Kozachenko, and interestingly don’t remember much controversy over her sexual orientation.
