Such optimism. Such scheming. Such giddiness. It has been nearly 40 years since so many have felt so compelled to fight back, to take on an imperial president and oppose a sweeping corporate agenda. The antiwar movement, celebrated or otherwise, is the big story. The outcome [RETURN TO ARTICLE]

This was my favorite article that I have ever read on inthesetimes. Epton didn’t abandon is left-wing view but was still critical of the democratic party, and how the “lets beat bush!” just won’t work.
I disagree that the next conservative candidate will be another in the bush dynasty, it could be, but the best would be condi rice. Condi Rice would kill Hillary in the 2008 election.
While this is a well-articulated piece of writing, the underlying assumption that all progressives want essentially the same thing doesn’t hold much water. I’m all for shutting down the financial rape of America that is the military-industrial complex, but we’ll always need the military part of that equation. Dismantling the Pentagon is more than dumb; a little renovation should suffice….
I’m a middle of the road Democart.
I believe Democrats can’t win if the candidate is much further left than Bill Clinton. Therefore, since I strongly detest the vicious Republican Party and everything Bush et al. do I’ll be happy to vote for most any Democrat. I think the article suggests holding out for a faily liberal platform. I like this in principle but think it, like Ralph Nader will lose. Hence Anything but bush will do for me.
