We New Yorkers also re-use many things we find on the sidewalk. It is common to find a mirror leaning up against a tree on the sidewalk, or a computer desk on the sidewalk, or a nice chair, or a computer monitor, or a table, or just about anything that people get tired of and want to throw away or leave for someone to take. There are also plenty of things that you can find and fix up like new.
We call these re-usable objects ‘sidewalk specials’.
