Harm Reduction: The Anti-Drug

A common sense approach to stopping unnecessary death.

By Melinda Tuhus

A mother from suburban Hartford, Conn., had a life-saving drug on hand when she truly needed it. I think it is great that we do have the opportunity to use a drug to save someone from an overdose.  But what does this say about us?

The truth is- no matter how many people decide to go to rehab, some will still relapse. I’m happy that this woman was able to help her son, and I hope more programs like this will assist families of addiction patients receive access to this drug.

    Ashley,

You are totally correct about how wonderful it was that she was able to help her son and about how many will relapse.  However, I know a number of people who were heavy addicts that have not relapsed.

My point is that we should hope and pray that they go to rehab, not just on another addictive drug or that they can’t do it.
