Homegrown Terrorists

By Salim Muwakkil

When the deadly toxin ricin was found February 3 in the mailroom of Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn.), there was no change in Homeland Security colors. Although biological attacks on the apparatus of government are a veritable shortcut to domestic insecurity, they don’t register on the chromatic terrorism scale. Americans have been trained to disassociate such attacks from the… return to article

Interesting story, but I haven’t seen anything written that the ricin might have been planted by conservative factions within our own intelligence community to divert attention away from the Democrats’ presidential race, and back to Republicans’ concern for national security.  I mention this for the following reasons: 1.  no one person or group has been linked to the ricin incident; 2. no one was injured or hospitalized as has happened in previous attacks with chemical agents; 3. hardly anyone was in the building at the time when the ricin was discovered as opposed to past incidents involving chemical agents; 4. there has been hardly any follow-up investigation--at least, very little has appeared in print.  Some things to think about because our military and intelligence communities are divided in their political loyalties--news that rarely appears in mainstream, or even liberal and leftist publications.  It is time that someone thoroughly investigated the link between certain suspicious incidents (e.g. the ricin plant, the air deaths of John Kennedy Jr. and Senator Paul Wellstone) and covert intelligence operations.  No publications appear to have the guts to do this.

This story chides the government for paying too much attention to terrorists who kill in the name of Islam (because they misinterpret the religion) and not enough attention to the terrorist here in the US who kill in the name of their religion.  BUT, this story contradicts intself.  The terrorists that it accuses the government of ignoring were CAUGHT, so obviously they weren’t ignored.  The terrorists that hail from overseas have killed thousands here and demand attention.  I don’t think anyone is getting ignored.  I think it is just an overwhelming problem.  No conspiracy theories- there are just sick, hateful people out there.
