The Bushite Strategy …

By Salim Muwakkil

A September report by the U.S. Census Bureau revealed that more than 1.3 million additional Americans fell into poverty last year, and children accounted for almost one-half of that rise, with more than 600,000 added to the ranks of the poor. What’s more, poverty among children under age 5 increased by a full percentage point, from 18.8 percent in 2001… return to article

I use to believe that our country was about building from the foundation up, instead of the top down.  How long can this nation sustain itself if less than 5% of its inhabitants continue to accumulate a majority share of the wealth?  It just seems like common sense to me to reinvest in the people of this country in order to build a great nation.  Otherwise, no matter how much cosmetic work may be done, like all structures built upon weak foundations, the United States of America will eventually crumble and fall.

This is a well written story. I wish it could receive a much wider circulation in the mainstream magazines as well. Often, it becomes difficult even to write a letter to the editor on topics like these- in the local newspapers. It is frustrating. On-line magazines like yours do a great, commendable service to those who try to alleviate the sufferings of the poor.

This Administration, coming from a Washington (Federal hating) bashing position, is out to weaken the federal powers any way possible - witness what is happening in all domestic and foreign affairs.  This is NOT a coincidence - it is a big bisiness and neo-confederate conspiracy - an unbelivable treason case if were documented and tried.

    Great story!
One of the underreported stories of the decade is the conservative agenda to bankrupt the federal government. . . Since Bush flatly stated this as a goal before he was elected [to do away with those pesky federal social welfare and environmental laws among other things], we can hardly be suprised that he is doing exactly what he set out to do.

The real shock is that people seem to believe that our constitutional government magically sprang into being, and that our freedoms will magically stay put forever. As we have seen with that rediculous, odiously worded document the “USA Patriot Act”, it is far from certain that our American liberties are protected. Far from it, people like Ashcroft and Bush sound like the “Communist Pinko Scumbags” that we spent years fighting in the cold war [America: Love It Or Leave It].

Therefore, when 30% of the homeless people in Silicon Valley actually hold fulltime jobs - but can’t afford even basic housing - we have to seriously ask ourselves why we are allowing our beautiful nation to be run into the ground.

Bush’s silver spoon needs to be inserted to a much more meaningful place than his mouth before he fully realizes what a working family goes through every day in this country just to survive. I know plenty of nice wealthy people, and none of them see a need to steal money from fellow Americans who are already destitute. . .
    Why does our President?

I am always disgusted when I hear Pat Buchanan say “Neoconned” or the “Neos”. Shameful anti-semitism. Sorry to see it here as well.

And can somebody stop using the stupid metaphor of “War”. “War on drugs”, “War on the Poor”. I realize the hard right and hard left have to pump up their articles but please give us something original!

    Good article though.

This story was buried in the FRIDAY SNEAK - as reported by tvnewslies.  When Bush/PNAC want a story buried in the weekend flurry of events ...it’s released on Fridays.  This is the FIRST time that the census report about poverty was ever released at the end of the week!

Tune in weekdays at noon (ET) to the new call-in (or email or AIM) LIVE online radio show that tells you what the media won’t!

    http://radio.tvnewslies.org

Oh yes..this site was shut down and DELETED by the server for being UNAMERICAN!  It’s back up.  The host had backup disks and was able to set up again.  McCarthy lives.....

    Two points:
1> Bush and our congress found it in their hearts to send Israel 9 billion from his original war budget of 80 billion. Thats 3 billion MORE that what was cut for education. To me, this is wrong, wrong wrong. Send billions to foreign countries while our kids are shortchanged.

The second point: If we keep adding millions of un educated, poor illegals to our work force. Poverty levels will surely go up and wage scales for American workers of all races and creeds will be kept down.

    Comments anyone?

How is labeling someone a neocon (neo=new, con = conservative) anti-semist?

United States Posted by Mike on Oct 4, 2003 at 1:21 PM

BUSH IS INDEED AN ENEMY OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE THE POOR IN PARTICULAR. THIS FROM ONE THAT HAS NEVER KNOWN NEED OR WANT IN HIS SILVER SPOON FED LIFE. AS GUILTY AS HE IS TO MY ESTIMATION THE MEDIA IS WORSE, AS THEY ARE THE ONES THAT TOUCH AMERICA MOST WITH THEIR HATE AND PROPAGANDA. DO AWAY WITH THE MEDIA AND ALL YOU HAVE IS AN INSIGNIFICANT LITTLE MAN WITH ALL THE COVERS PULLED OFF. THEN YOU WILL SEE THE BEGINNING OF THE END FOR THE BUSH REGIME.I ONLY HOPE TO SEE THE DAY WHEN THEY ALL FACE ASHCROFT TYPE JUSTICE, AFTER ALL, THEY GREW IT, THEY OUGHT TO CHEW IT.

Koppy, is “con” anti-semitic in the way the word “jewed” is as in “jewed somebody out of something”?
I was looking it up to see where it orginated or to see if it’s a derivitave of something like cracker is. But I can’t find anything about it.

    Just curious.
