The Candidates on Health Care

By Williams Cole

Given the long and sordid history of GOP connections to the pharmaceutical industry, health care and, especially, prescription drugs are issues Democrats usually have in their favor. This makes all the more disturbing recent Republican attempts to co-opt these issues with glossy pronouncements of working for prescription drug coverage while at the same time attaching language to the Homeland Security bill… return to article

Dennis Kucinich’s “Medicare for All” wold not be paid for as you say by a redution in Defense spending, but rather by existing Medicare system, and a 7.5% payroll deduction.  This 7.5% is less than the average of 8.5% currently being paid by employers to insure their employees.

For a more detailed look at the Kucinich plan, go to

Sounds like another feather in Kucinich’s cap, and yet another reason to vote for him as opposed to the clowns he’s running against.

    Greetings,

The ecosystem of the planet is about to deliver some surprises so vast that all this “wind”
from the “Democrats” will seem a deflecting breeze.  Only CMBraun is close to authentic, but the chances are slim, and somehow, that’s exactly what the Big Machine of the Corporate Overlords has in mind, as the choreography for the next “election” is carefully arranged, programmed, mystified with eloquent disiformation.  There are no alternatives.

Things fall apart.  The center cannot hold.  This is all “bread and circuses,” folks.  Breathe deeply while you can. Drink spring water while the distribution networks remain. Enjoy Starbucks a few more times.  Something is coming.  Its a good idea to store canned food, water, and dry goods.  It won’t be long now.

Howard Dean hasn’t only earned the support of progressives by virtue of his leadership on behalf of universal health coverage. Dean is also the only candidate speaking out and offering policy alternatives to respond to virtually every other aspect of the health care crisis. For example, while other candidates have defined access strictly as a question of insurance coverage, Dean alone has also spoken out about minority health disparities and the role of racism in America’s health care system. Similarly, Dean has also addressed America’s nursing care crisis. In fact, Dean eanred the AFL-CIO’s Paul Wellstone Award for his role in helping Vermont nurses organize. When you look at his record in Vermont and his agenda today, it’s little surprise that he won the backing of SEIU and AFSCME: the two unions most committed to winning real health care reform. It is inappropriate to characterize Wesley Clark’s proposals on health care as anything less than thorough; he has a well-formulated and excellent-sounding proposal, see http://www.clark04.com/issues/healthcare/  The economics of this proposal are discussed in http://www.clark04.com/issues/healthcare/clarkplan.pdf  A comparison of this plan with those of the other candidates is given at http://www.clark04.com/issues/healthcare/healthcare.pdf
If you think that Clark cannot take on Bush in any debating forum on any issue, I refer you to www.clark04.com where you are going to be very impressed with the depth and clarity of the general’s thinking on ALL of the issues of importance to us reading these pages.

    Dear sir,
Your listing is incomplete, because you leave out the Democrat with the best record on health care, in the FDR tradition, Lyndon LaRouche. Are you so confined by the establishment that you will not cover the candidate who has the second largest number of individual contributions of any candidate, and a youth movement with a record of victory, in places like Philadelphia?
