Hope Dies Last

By Studs Terkel

Hope has never trickled down. It has always sprung up. That’s what Jessie de la Cruz meant when she said, “I feel there’s gonna be a change, but we’re the ones gonna do it, not the government. With us, there’s a saying, ‘La esperanza muere ultima. Hope dies last.’ You can’t lose hope. If you lose hope, you lose everything.”… return to article

damn thats funny, i just tried to plug our organization and i typed in the wrong web address...oh well where there is humor there is hope....thanks for the article man...la esperanza muere ultima...espero que eso es la verdad…
i have been trying to describe hope for a long time...and if i can continue in the face of it all...but i agree with the harvard student...why else be alive? in my work i sometimes question if i am helping at all...or if the world is just this way...but what i have found is that i really dont give a damn...i have an idea of hope...and i believe i can make this world a better place......and it gives me hope that others think the same.

Studs Terkel always has his finger on the right place at the right time for all the good reasons. He’s a national treasure; a treasure house, an island of treasure, a man who treasures the best of the Amerian spirit.

Thank you for this gift today in the New Year.  I reflect on hope every day as it is the most difficult to keep alive and the most necessary attribute to live.

    Dear Studs,

I’m fascinated by your recent article “Hope Dies Last” and especially by your final accords.

For a while I have tried to establish a contact with you.
First I do agree with most of the things you were saying.
Second, since we are family relatives by the way of the larger Terk’l family,
I had wished to talk with you about our common family roots.
I have diged it out back to the beggining of the 19th century.

All the best, enjoy the New Year 2004.

    Sincerely,
