‘Full-Tilt Boogie’ in Iowa

By David Moberg

Former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean swept through Iowa in early December. The crowd gathered to hear him at the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers’ (IBEW) union hall was divided between the curious and the committed. These well-organized union members are likely to play an outsized role in the January 19 caucuses, which in turn are likely to play an outsized… return to article

When in doubt refer to an actually funny show- I.E.- The Daily Show- “When Dean heard Saddam was captured his reaction was --"You’re s--ing me right? You BETTER BE S-ING ME?!”

That’s funny and we’re screwed. “In These Times” better come up with a strategy. I’m sick of lying on the mat.

Again, Kucinich is being dismissed as a “poor little guy who ain’t going to make it,” although his platform includes all of the issues these union people are most important to them.  His support actually seems to be picking up steam, and his website proves it.  His comments at the latest debate prove he speaks plainly and is strongly committed to fight for “the little guy” and help us return to the America we all love.
Dean does appear to me to be “Republican Lite” and Gephardt is sooo boring!
It’s still early and too soon to tell, so we Kucinich Supporters plan to keep on and work harder.

The character Frodo is also a “poor little guy who ain’t going to make it” but the story of his struggle to overcome the spreading darkness is resonating with something in the heart of the American public today.  It’s a good time to be known as a short long-shot.  Dennis Kucinich should not worry.  There is still hope.

Is Dean a member of a union?

Once again we are being led by clintonesque triangulators.

While Dean’s message may sound good, he just doesn’t have the track record which shores it up.

Historically all presidential candidates who led in the polls the year prior to the election didn’t get the nomination.

The best package out there is Dennis Kucinich.  While the Republicans could open up this package, they wouldn’t, as they would with Dean, find any surprises.

I’d like to remind people that in December of 1991 Clinton’s poll numbers were in the low single digits.  What would have happened then had the media proacticed outright self-censorship on him?

If you watched the recent ABC Presidential debates you’d see who it is that can best handle spontaneity.  Dennis Kucinich pretty much dispatched Ted Koppel.  And he did so without the use of some cheap sound bite (like Kerry attempted to do).

And, how many people can relate to somene with millions of dollars?  Kucinich has but about $20,000 to his name.  Clearly he hasn’t sought to profit from his service in government.

We need many more stories of
    this type.

I think that the recent Saddam capture has heavily effected the democratic primary. Dennis Kucinich can kiss whatever small chances goodbye (sorry to the progressives out there). Howard Dean looks worse but he can still win. The guys to watch are Gebhart and Lieberman.
If I was a lib, I’d want one of the last two I mentioned to win, because then Bush has to run on domestic issues and those will hurt him (even though the economy has never grown faster since the liberals’ fav Reagan was in office). But people still don’t like Bush’s domestic policies.
It’ll be tough to unseat Bush, and I don’t think it will happen, but Howard Dean won’t be able do it.
