Can it be any plainer than that? The GOP rants about how the Dems are trying to start a class war by confronting these gaping holes in the Administration’s social policies. The truth of the matter isn’t that the GOP are against a class war, it’s that they don’t want the Dems to get in their way. They have done all they can with the rules corrently on the books to make money, now they want to take the next step - establish a feudal working class. The more crime, desperation, and hopelessness we see in our poorest areas, the more justification they will have to impose draconian laws that will cement these conditions into our social fabric. And a Kingdom was born…

I recently attended a preschool workshop where “No Child Left Behind” literature was passed out. I wondered why this was being handed out and many children in Alabama did not have textbooks! It there something wrong with this?

also, this administration wants to ‘leave no childs urine behind’. Did you know you can garner someones complete DNA from a urine sample? Did you know there is already a national DNA database for Americans? Leave no child’s dna behind!

It scares the bejeepers out of me,there are still too many people
in this country, who are Bush’s lovers….I know many of them, and
I am not considered a person who
has the right of free speech…that is
how hard it is out here!!!

One has to ask the question: “Is George Bush even electable?” This clown prince of radical republicanism has told us all too many lies; has made himself and Americans too many enemies; he has made the country less safe, letting our enemies know just how bad our intelligence really is; adding to the everyday terror by having us hide in our holes anytime his polls go down; the boy-cub is finally on his way to self-destruction and I for one am having a great time watching and telling conservative friends, “I told you so.”

One of your top-notch articles, Mr Greg… it had a zing that went right to the solar plexus! I’ve passed it on to all on my lists. Keep them coming!

One other thing: the USian gov’t (regime) is now “Aryan Nation” & “KKK” writ large. Understanding that this is about literal fascist “white”-supremacy, with its attendant main focus on everlasting war against race, gender, & the Natural World, should be acknowledged by every person of good will & social justice if we are all to get thru this crisis.

I think making schools accountable for educating our children is a good thing. If you must vent your anger at Bush please use a different forum.

I would find it hardly coincidental,
the similarity between the names
of the “No child left behind act” and
that Right wing, lunatic fringe, fundamentalist,” Left Behind”
piece of crap book series enjoyed by so many brain dead people in this country. I guess if all kids have to go to christian schools, they won’t be left behind, huh george?

I wish that the Democrats in Washington had your courage to stand up and hold Pres. Bush accountable for his lies.
The “miracle” in Houston was a bold faced lie. They reduced the numbers of drop-outs by chaning the drop-out status to “moved away” with no attempt to follow up on any students status.

Gee Trish, I think Clear Skies and Healthy Forests are good things too. Unfortunately, with bu$h white is often black, and in the case of NCLB the results in the next few years will serve to “defund” the public schools, as more and more find it impossible to meet these standards without blatant cheating and denial of educational opportunities based on a student’s likeliness to lower the school’s testing results. Look at the amazingly low dropout rates in Houston, despite the school system only graduating 40% of the students who enter 9th grade. They have learned how to cope in the post-NCLB world - cheat your ass off.

Even if you ignore the glaring issues with the Leave No Child Behind act and chalk that up to partisan, liberal, knee-jerk whining, you have to recognize that Bush must feel the same way we do- since he underfunded it by as much as 50% in all states. It’s not so much that the program is right or wrong, it is that it was never meant to be either. It was just a way to garner the attention of the mis-informed.
