Oh yes Natalie, I'm sure the Iranians are really frightened after seeing how well we made Iraq and Afghanistan bend to our will. Iran's land area and population is only three times that of Iraq, and they have many Shiite pals not only in Iraq but throughout the gulf region. Heard anything about the price of oil lately? CNN is like the rest of the media-it gives people the news they want to watch. People may not know who Alberto Gonzales is, but they all know Paris Hilton or Nicole Smith. Who's responsibility is that?

Whew! Is she gone? Is it safe? Glad you finally saw the light David. Been fun to follow, but at what point does tenacity become a handicap? I wiki-ed the words-futile debates-and found Herr Doktor Helbig's picture at the top. Don't you remember that line you liked? "Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level then beat you with experience every time." Remember? If you want to know who she is and what she is about, Check it out! And here is a more recent one yet has the same picture. No Natalie, not an idiot; a government disinformation specialist. You might not even be the Natalie from the links I posted here, but I note you didnt in fact deny this is who you are. I recall another-Rabbit?-bringing this up only much better documented. Your reply was similar; sarcasm but no denial. So why does everybody think youre a shill? Because your world view and methods of defending it are right out of the Ministry of Truth handbook. You are the perfect mirror image of those who hate us. They also see themselves as morally superior, and within the parameters of …

Think Ebonics, Natalie dear; De Nile is both a river in Egypt and the state you live in. Bet all us kooks here got it. And here I thought Republicans were renowned world wide for their sense of humor! At any rate they sure make good straight men/women, so this could be fun for a change. Oh, and heres a link that may help explain how I know all about you. LB-That is weird. I checked with edit, and the [ /i] is definitely there. Lets experiment here with ITT's pre-war software. Oh, and I dont think Natty gets irony-shes a carrier. Edit--Found it-forgot to close italics after 'wouldn't.' Now if the next poster just does a /b and /u, it will be back to normal-if there is such a thing on ITT. (sorry Natalie-I tried to make things a little homey for you but no red.

OMG--I am suddenly feeling very powerful. Does this really mean the future look of this thread is in my hands? This is how revolutions are started. Too bad theres no code or color. Would love to turn all of Nattys words into ASCII or Javascript. Anyone have any idea how I could do that?

Never argue with fools. They will drag you down to their level then beat you with experience every time. Very interesting thread this. Symbolic. Wait till rp comes back to check in a few days and sees how off his prophecy was. Hey. It just hit me. Thats why he's a recursive prophet! He'll come back and edit in a new post predicting how marvelously elevated and spot-on topic this discussion will soon become. How devious.

Dear Lord, we have let things go too far... A digital tower of Babel that makes me wonder what some of the few I recommended this site to will think if they stumble into this little corner of Bedlam? Will I be judge a whacko also, by association? I cant believe I just lost a half hour I'll never get back just scanning through all this. Sort of like a bad highway crash where you know you just wasting time looking, but somehow fascinated. Schadenfreude? Must admit its all has a humorous side, but have trouble fathoming what some like LB, …

Mike-do not read the rest of this post. It will make your head hurt and is not worthy of your valuable time. This is but a word-salad reply to LB. As you know, hes an intellectual vegetarian; never gets to the 'meat' of any issue. Good job on the CNN thread with Natalie. Shes not really a shill-she just plays one on several websites. I knew you could deal with her effectively, but stick to your last goodbye. If you want to see what can happen if you keep responding, check out the 9/11 topic. She went well over 20 pages …

Shame on you LB, threatening to tattle to the Admin. IMHO the best thing ITT has going is tolerance; a model for the rest of cyberspace and a credit to Kurt. Bet he got a kick out of Mike and all his SPs. If you think about it wasnt old Kilgore in this mold? If BB is Mike, as you believe, then you know the libel rants are nothing more than that as long as you dont mess with one of his cats. Pondering your reaction, LB, Im reminded of the story of an art contest in ancient Greece. Two of …

And the people said, Amen. Been a while since Ive checked in ITT, and this seems to be one of the more peaceful forums so I figured I could say hi without getting flamed. David and LB-either of you ever read 'Ceremonial Chemistry' by Thomas Szasz? He makes many great points in this book, including the fact that 'holy water' should not be viewed as in any way a distinct class of water such as 'heavy' or 'distilled.' It is only the ceremony that distinguishes it. I see this as a sort of meta4 for all faith. Some very interesting posts …

Ah, that life would lead me down such a twisted path that I would find all this worthy of participation. Such a strange culture here on ITT. Old men sitting round a digital woodstove spinning yarns and debating history. Guess the future becomes less relevant as it dwindles in percentage of what will be ones life. So much more behind us then what lies ahead. I sure miss your debates with Jay also LB. But I think we should play along with Blackie to encourage Mike to make the effort to convince us. And speaking of Mike, I havent seen him be absent from these forums this long ever before. Hope he hasnt given up on us. He seems to have generated more posts than anyone else. Come back Mikey. We all still love you. We cant afford to have the ITT Atlas shrug.

The cat apologizing to the mouse, LB? And hey, we both know one of the things so maddening about Mike is he is NOT in any way an idiot!! (hes at least up to moron-maybe even dull normal) (Just kidding Mike) Mike makes a lot of sense on a lot of subjects. Judeophile that I am, I still think its possible the numbers killed by Hitler may have been exagerated. What is history but the propaganda of the victors? What I don't really understand is why he finds their successful spin so offensive. All countries do this; the Jews are simply …

Typical of how BushCo 'supports our troops.' What is coming is the complete destruction of the voluntary military concept. How many do you think will want to sign on for service in the army or the National Guard after the way these people have been forced to pay the price for Rumsfeld's miscalculations?

Looks like I was wrong about LB. Found her on Myspace today. You can see an interesting pic of our Luminous Beauty there, and based on reading her blogs I now see my speculation that 'he' was an Ag contractor was way off. Of course she said something to that effect in another thread, but I've learned that the closest she ever came to working in agriculture, making her living from the Earth's soil, was as a mud wrestler in TJ. Which brings us to David. Clearly David and LB are working together, and her description of him was in fact …

This is truly hilarious:
I thought my screen name here was Theo, whereas it is, in fact, TheoPapathanasis. So we have a genuine case of someone, yours truly, actually, if accidentally, passing themselves off as another person.]
Is this a hoot or what? It's Maurice Conchis, no doubt about that. So who are the Cloudmakers at your little tea party, David? Edoc Rules? Or apophenic? Connections to all this go back to a short story written in 1905 by G. K. Chesterton in which he predicted Alternate Reality Games (ARG) such as we now find all over the web. It was in a story about a Major. Hmm, Major Major? Then a 60s novel called The Magus (Magician) by John Fowles inspired metaverse surfers, along with a 90s movie similar to Magus called The Game. The incredible irony here, as Theo P. sees, is how can you even convince someone you …

Papa Theo!! Great to see you back. No need to apologize to Theo, as I understand he has become one of Davids many sockpuppets. For all we know the 'rea'l Theo died years ago. What I still find amusing is the subject of this topic. I was hoping the discussion would continue, and that RP-who at one point I thought was also you-would continue his tale of pirates in cyberspace for David, who apparently was in Bahrain for a while. Didnt I read somewhere that Zizek only contributed here as he knew his secret hero, Theo Papathanasis, occasionally posted in these …

Very interesting insight, Major. But do you really think those that can effectively communicate with the present administration could possibly be that far-sighted? I wish. I suspect we shall use Israel again to initiate the air strikes against Iran, and use the 2 carriers just deployed to the gulf as a backup in case Iran tries to retaliate. But your speculation is quite interesting, if unlikely. I totally agree about the emergence of fundamentalism on all fronts.

Are you guys in love? Or do you both just need a hug? It might be more instructive if you revealed your agendas in continuing this debate. Isn't history just, at the end of the day, the propaganda of the victorious? How much of any of it can we be sure of? Why not expand on the philosophical aspects of this issue, like the 'right' to develop nuclear weapons?

Just as we had no follow-up plan for the insurgency after the Iraqi army left the field of battle and blended back in with the civilians, we now have no plan B for when the surge also fails. And what of the increasing debt we shall incur and the long term effect on military recruitment? Anthropologist Gregory Bateson tells about New College, in Oxford, England. The main hall there was built in the early 1600s with oak beams 40 feet long and 2 feet thick. Recently they began to suffer from dry rot, and administrators couldn't find English oaks large enough …

"How can you figure out if you are sane? ... Once you begin to question your own sanity, you get trapped in an ever-tighter vortex of self-fulfilling prophecies, though the process is by no means inevitable. Everyone knows that the insane interpret the world via their own peculiarly consistent logic; how can you tell if your own logic is "peculiar' or not, given that you have only your own logic to judge itself? I don't see any answer. I am reminded of Gödel's second theorem, which implies that the only versions of formal number theory which assert their own consistency are …
