I do not accept your criticism that my statement "minimizes and trivializes" patient safety. Instead, you have just underlined what I see as a serious problem here, the tendency to paint the "other side" as entirely in the wrong. I am a member of neither union involved and will not comment on their respective positions here. I will observe, though, that in Oregon where I live, SEIU and the Oregon Federation of Nurses and Health Professionals (OFNHP-AFT) united in a very effective coalition to organize Providence Health System nurses.
