Instructive to hear about the formidable resources of AIPAC - terrifying. Where does the funding come from? But alas, J Street has arrived too late. Too little to late. A two state solution is now out of the question. So does J Street merely represent the 'soft power' means to similar outcomes? Namely, permanent subjugation of the Palestinian people. People like Malley, Siegman and Burg are smart cookies. Surely they must stand for something more than endless linguistic blather that merely diverts attention while the ethnic cleansing of the Occupied Territories continues unrelentingly.

Pappe is NOT radical. He is down to earth and sensible. He is your conventional next door neighbour academic with the leather patched jacket. He just happens to be a conscientious scholar and ethically principled. The fact that he had to clear out from Israel is a reflection not on his stance but on that of his opponents, dedicated to proving that Black is White, or alternatively (as for Benny Morris), Black is Black but we have to carry on as if it's White of necessity.

' That may be true but Israel's criminality is fundamentally dependent upon 'diaspora' Jewish communities (financial, lobbying, propaganda, etc.). re oldlefty - the pressure for change within Israel is not centred from 'the left', which is essentially compromised and complicit, but from disparate groups and individuals whose broader politics is not uniform.

It is with disgust that I notice the cultish response from Wolf on the plight of Gazans. Hamas was legitimately elected by the Palestinian people, which process was denied/ignored by the Palestinians' Israeli/American overlords. Hamas has continued to offer peace deals with the Israeli leadership, only to be ignored. The present Gaza was strategically constructed as a giant Warsaw-type ghetto, and the strategy has worked brilliantly. Meanwhile Abbas plays the Quisling to perfection, as was his deemed role. By contrast, the amoral flunkies who fall into line to defend Israeli criminality get unfettered access. As a conscious party to ethnic cleansing, you demean yourself, you demean jewry sui generis, you insult jews appalled by the Israeli state's criminality (a state born and nourished on blood, run by a succession of gangsters, with only a couple of honourable exceptions) and, in particular, dissident Jewish Israelis (Neve Gordon, Exhibit A).
