Why hasn't the obvious question regarding the anemic National Guard response to the Katrina tragedy been asked of the White House and Bush? Namely, is the poor response due to the fact that the National Guard has been so gutted by the deployments to Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere that they can not respond in a timely manner? Regarding the stories surrounding President Bush and his missing year of Guard duty, there is another angle that needs to be investigated. I too served in the military in 1971-72 with the Army. My last assignment was at Ft. Bragg, NC with the 82nd Airborne. At that time, Bragg was one of the bases that Vietnam vets returned to, spending about 30 days and filling out paperwork so they could muster out and go home.
