    It is absolutely wrong to say that wind power requires an equal amount of backup electricity generating capacity for use when the wind is not blowing. This is a 'common sense' way of thinking that unfortunately is not based on any understanding of electricity grids. First of all, even in a relatively small country like the UK it is highly unlikely that the wind will stop blowing across the whole country at the same time.
