    This is astounding! That this particular article could be made public under the authority of In These Times leads me to wonder just what is the purpose of this publication? I am heartened by the fact that so far, all of the follow up letters pour scorn upon this worthless article. I would like to follow the discussion about this article, and I would be interested if Mr. Giles's rebuttal is made available. However once I have determined that this discussion thread has been played out I will permantly delete In These Times from my list of bookmarks. When this sort …

    Attention folks! When Terry Allen's article was first posted I made a comment stating that I would no longer read In These Times because of this article. One comment. There have been many many comments posted on this topic, all of which are e-mailed to me. At first they were of interest to me, but now they simply keep going over and over the same ground.     Read the article folks! It says that industry generates 70 times more waste than households. This means that whatever we do as citizens in terms of recycling is merely a token effort. I am a trucker and I take three or four trips to the dump every week for my company. The volume of waste in the landfill is more like 7000 times as much as my one bag of garbage every second week.
