    When this nation started to debate the issue of using torture, we lost any kind of status of being above it. What a sad national commentary to bequeath to my children and their children. We have been brought low by those within our own society. Bin Laden didn't even have to try.

    Yeah, jeffc, I suppose it's kind of like when you drive down the road and everyone in the car is overcome by a gagging stench that smells remarkably like a skunk.     Excellent piece. Another avenue that absolutely needs to be advocated and pursued by those of us who profess to be "main-stream" traditional Christians is to challenge the beginnings of extreme fundamentalism in our own churches when it rears its ugly head. Don't let your own church be hijacked by the fanatics. If you believe in true Christian values, respect the beliefs of others,and advocate the necessity of separation of church and state in a healthy democracy, volunteer to serve on your church's boards, and help to steer policies away from the fanatics.     Excellent post, Jon B. Nicely capsulizes their troll tactics and brings the issue back to the basic argument - the fact that our Constitution and the Bill of Rights are under seige by this administration and that they must be stopped before we morph into a totalitarian society.
