I understand the debate about the manner and means of exit polling and its accuracy as a tool for understanding election results. It seems to me that over the past two decades that exit polling in this country has demonstrated a reasonable validity as a reliable instrument of analysis. There have been, to my knowledge, no demonstrable trends towards disputing their usefulness or reliability for quite some time, including the use of the particular pollsters that are now in question (Mitofsky et al). Thanks to Sally and Frog...I realized that these forums are the only way we have to keep our feet on sane ground. What has disturbed me over the past four or five years is the inexorable and 'bottom-up' manner in which the attack on democracy and the the separation of church and state has been implemented.
