I just attended a keynote given by the author of this book, and I cannot wait to read the book. I found it such a huge relief to hear Dr. DeGruy-Leary speak in unapologetic tones about the fact that this nation owes its success to slaves, that they built this country. I have been uncomfortable discussing slavery my entire life, but never able to put my finger on "why". I suspect that part of my hesitation was the fact that I knew, somewhere inside my pysche, that the way slavery was taught and discussed in my classrooms and home was wrong. …
