Erik Hanberg
Erik Hanberg was born in Tacoma, Washington, four days after the eruption of Mount Saint Helens. He attended Bellarmine Prep where he got his first taste for theater. He continued working in theater at Carleton College, in Northfield, Minnesota, where he worked in all facets of theater, including acting, directing, writing, publicity, tech work, and reviewing.
After returning to Tacoma in 2002, Erik began marketing Tacoma and Pierce County as a tourist destination at the local Convention & Visitor Bureau. While there, he coordinated the 2003 Society of American Travel Writers visit to Tacoma.
In 2004, Erik became the Managing Director of the Grand Cinema, a non-profit art-house movie theater in downtown Tacoma. During his 2 1/2 years at the theater, Erik dramatically increased special programming and educational opportunities, including film classes, youth outreach, and the popular 72-Hour Film Competition. He also helped to increase fundraising by 400% in during those two years. When he left the Grand in August of 2006, it was with better financial security, more volunteers, more in reserves than when he’d started, and exceptional new programming opportunities.
Erik is excited to use his arts-management experience to help create The Horatio.
In addition to his work, Erik writes a blog at www.erikemery.com, one of blogs that covers news and happenings in the South Sound.
