While watching the opening extravaganza and realizing there were people under the boxy columns acting in sequence, I got an uncomfortable flash back to the “waves” of Chinese coming into Korea.

Just being able to coordinate that many people so well is unsettling.

Personally, I think the Olympics are an awesome display of dedication and camaraderie.  While I’m disturbed by some countries “over-dedication” (like taking young prodigies away from their families), it’s the only time where people from all nations can come together in one location with hostility or ill-will…of course there was that Tanya Harding incident.  Anyway, I think you know what I’m getting at.  It promotes friendly competition and gives people something to hope for.  That should account for something.
